NID Application Form 2021 [National Institute of Design] – Apply Online
To offer UG & PG design courses in its affiliated campuses, National Institute of Design (NID) releases NID Application Form. It offers four years (B.Des) course at Ahmedabad campus and two & a half years (M.Des) course at Gandhinagar, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad campuses. To get admission into various design courses, candidates have to clear the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims & Mains examinations. NID Application Form 2021 Details
Candidates can fill the application form from October. Candidates have to register themselves before filling the application form. Upload the scanned images of photograph, signature & other required certificates. SC/ST and PwD category candidates have to upload the required certificates in the prescribed format. In case of payment through DD, candidates have to send the printed application form along with DD to the official address. The last date to submit the application form will be in November.
Steps to fill NID Application Form 2021
- Visit the official website to fill the application form.
- Click on the “Sign Up” button.
- Register yourself by entering details like mobile number, email ID, DOB, etc.
- Log in to the accounts using email ID and DOB, after registration.
- Fill all the required details in the application form.
- Upload scanned images of photograph, signature and other necessary documents according to the specified format.
- Next step is to pay the application fee.
- Pay the application fee through online or offline mode.
- After fee payment, take the printout of the application form for future use.
- Candidates have to send the printed application along with required documents to the authority address only in case of fee payment through DD.
How to Apply:
Step 1: Sign up Registration
- Candidates applying for the BDes/GDPD or MDes Programme are required to sign up online before proceeding to fill the application form at http://admissions.nid.edu.
- Candidates have to provide a valid email address.E ensure that email id & mobile number is active till 31 August.
- After Successful sign up an email will be sent to the registered email ID.
- Candidate login to account using email ID and providing the date of birth during sign-up.
Step 2: Fill in online Application Form:
- Candidate Login and proceed to the step-2 Application form.
- Fill in all the required details.
- After filling all the details, click “Save and Proceed” to go to the Upload document section.
Applicants of MDes Programme:
- For the applicants applying only in one discipline of MDes Programme.
- Such applicants are required to appear in DAT Prelims comprising of the CDAT (Common Design Aptitude Test). The duration of DAT prelims will be 2.5 hours.
For the applicants applying only in two disciplines of MDes Programme.
Such candidates are required to appear in DAT prelims comprising of:
- The CDAT( Common design Aptitude Test) and One-domain specific test if the two disciplines fall under same faculty stream. The total duration of DAT prelims will be 2.5 hrs.
- The CDAT and Two domain-specific tests if the two disciplines fall under different Faculty streams.T he total duration of DAT prelim will be 4.5 years.
Step 3: Upload your documents
- Candidate must upload a scanned a photograph as per the instructions. All Photographs must be in JPG/JPEG format and under 100KB in size. It must be a colored photograph.
- Candidate must upload scanned signature as per the instructions. All the signature files must be in JPG/JPEG format and under 100KB in size.
- Candidates applying under the OBC-NCL category are required to upload their valid OBC-NCL certificate issued by a competent authority. The date of issue of Certificate should be 01 April or later.
- Candidates applying under the SC/ST category are required to upload their valid SC/ST certificate issued by a competent authority. The date of issue of Certificate should be 01 April or later. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceeding 150 KB.
- Candidates applying under the persons with disability (PwD) category are required to upload their valid Disability certificate.
- After uploading all the documents please click save and process.
Application Fee
- The application fee can be deposited through credit card/ debit card and Demand Draft.
- The demand draft should be made in favor of “All India Management Association” payable at New Delhi.

Exam Pattern
- The Prelims will be directed in 2 parts.
- M.Des of DAT Mains will involve of 2 parts: interviews and studio test.
- The question paper will have a language only English.
- The time is allotted to answer for the DAT prelims question paper is three hours.
- The part-1 will contain the MCQs (multiple choice questions) where part-2 is type of subjective.
- There is no negative marking.
- Exam is based on pen and paper.
- It will have total 100 points each for DAT mains and DAT prelims.
Eligibility Criteria
For B.Des:
- The upper age limit is 20 years on or before 30 June.
- For reserved category, 3 years relaxation in upper age limit is given.
- Candidates those have passed/appearing in the 12th standard examination from any recognized board are eligible to apply.
- Those applying under the appearing category have to produce the proof of passing the qualifying exam at the time of admission.
For M.Des:
- Candidates holding a bachelor’s degree in any stream from any recognized university/institution can apply for this course.
- Diploma holders in design in 10+2+4 level can also apply.
- The prescribed upper age limit is 30 years on or before 30 June.
- For reserved category, 3 years and for PwD candidates, 5 years relaxation will be given.
NID Application Form 2021: Important Points
- The application form is available through online mode.
- You will be notified by the mail on your registered email id.
- You have to send the printout of the application form in case of payment through demand draft.
- It is compulsory to translate the school documents if they are in the native language.
- You can make payment through demand draft.
- There is no attempt limit to appear for this exam except you are eligible to appear in all aspects.
- You can apply for a maximum of two disciplines.
- NIOS students can also apply for the NID exam.
