UPSC CDS 2022: Combined Defence Services Examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit candidates for the Indian Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy, Officers’ Training Academy, and Air Force Academy. Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

• The applicants must be Indian nationals. OR
• A subject of Bhutan. OR
• A subject of Nepal. OR
• A Tibetan refugee who had come to India before 1^st July 1962 to become a permanent resident of India. OR
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka & East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire & Ethiopia or Vietnam to become a permanent resident of India. If an applicant belongs to categories 2,3,4 & 5 then he/she must have obtained the certificate of eligibility that has been issued by Govt. of India. Gorkha subject to Nepal will also have to obtain the certificate of eligibility.

Marital Status

• For Indian Military Academy, applicants should be- Unmarried
• Indian Naval Academy, applicants should be- Unmarried
• Air Force Academy, applicants should be Unmarried till 25 years
• Officers Training Academy applicants should be- Married or Unmarried
• Officers Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical courses)- Unmarried or Widowed

Educational Qualification

• For the Indian Military Academy, the applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
• For the Indian Naval Academy, the applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognized University or equivalent.
• Air Force Academy, the applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognized University OR Degree from a recognized university with Physics & Mathematics as subjects.
• Officers Training Academy, the applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
• Officers Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course), the applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or equivalent.

CDS 2022 Exam Pattern

• The paper will comprise questions from Elementary Mathematics, English, and General Knowledge subjects.
• There will be negative markings in this entrance exam.

For Admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy:

• The total marks allotted for the written examination for admission to IMA, INA, and AFA is 300 marks. All the papers of CDS examination for the above-mentioned academies will be of MCQ type (objective type) questions

CDS 2022 Selection Process

The selection of candidates will be based on some important components such as a Written Exam, Personal Interview, Document verification, and Medical report of the candidates.

• Written Examination- This is the first & foremost stage of the CDS selection procedure. The applicants will have to qualify in this stage to take part in the next stage of the selection procedure
• Personal Interview- the Personal interview is the 2^nd stage of the selection procedure of CDSE and only the qualified applicants of the written exam will be eligible to take part in this stage. This stage consists of various activities to shortlist the deserving applicants such as Group discussion, Group activities, Interviews.
• Documents Verification- The successful applicants of the personal interview will be called for the documents verification stage. The selected applicants will have to show their relevant documents to the selection authority.
• Medical Examination- Medical examination is the final but very important stage of selection. In this stage, the applicants will be tested on their physical fitness. The applicants will have to qualify this final stage of the selection procedure in order to get selected in CDSE

CDS 2022 Syllabus

• The Syllabus will be prepared by UPSC.
• Candidates planning to appear in the exam should go through the Syllabus carefully.

• English: Sentence Arrangement, Spotting Errors Questions, Selecting Words, Synonyms & Antonyms, Comprehension Questions, Ordering of Sentence, Fill in the blanks questions, Vocabulary Preparation
• Mathematics: Trigonometry, Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry, Statistic, Mensuration
• General Knowledge: Indian Constitution, Latest Current Affairs, Indian Economy, Indian History, Indian Politics, Indian Geography, Religions, Indian Navy & Military, Universities, Banking Sector, Sports – Awards, etc., Books & Authors, Taxation

Physical and Medical Exam

• The weight and height of the candidate must be on a standard scale.
• Candidates must get a full body checkup before appearing for the exam to make sure they do not have any type of illness or disease.
• Regular and proper exercise and training are important.

Personal Interview

• Well-Honed communication skill is crucial, as the thoughts can be expressed in better and more suitable words.
• Stay confident. It is natural to be nervous or anxious, but a candidate must be able to express his/her thoughts as beautifully as possible.
• Be updated and in touch with the latest and interesting happenings around the globe.
• It is imperative to be respectful and humble.
