SSC CHSL Selection Procedure — Complete Selection Details
For candidates appearing in the Combined Higher Selection Level (CHSL) recruitment process, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) announced the SSC CHSL selection procedure. Candidates will be selected for the post of Lower Divisional Clerks, Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistants, Data Entry Operators and Court Clerks based on the performance in Tier I and Tier II exam. SSC CHSL Selection Procedure
There will be three stages in the selection procedure of SSC CHSL as:
- Tier 1: Computer-based examination
- Tier 2: Descriptive paper
- Tier 3: Skill / Typing Test
Exam Pattern
For Paper I
- The question paper is divided into 4 sections.
- The sections are carrying 50 marks for each section.
- 75 minutes of duration.
- Language: Hindi & English
- Type: MCQ (Objective types)
- Marking: 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

For Paper II
Candidates who qualified Part-I need to appear Part-2 which will be conducted to test the skills of the candidates related to the posts.
- Nature of Exam: Write an Essay of 200 – 250 words and a Letter/ Application of 150 – 200 words.
- Mode of Exam: Pen and Paper
- Languages: Hindi / English
Typing test for LDC
- Candidates have to mention the language of typing while filling the application form.
- Test Time: 10 minutes, and 30 minutes for PH candidates.
- Nature of Test: Given a passage in English/ Hindi, you will need to re-type the same
- Minimum speed of 35 words per minute in English and 30 words per minute for Hindi.
Skill Test for DEO
- This test will be conducted for qualified candidates of written examination.
- Test Time: 15 minutes, and 35 minutes for PH candidates.
- Language: English
- Minimum speed of 8000 key depressions per hour.
- Given a passage in English, you will need to re-type the same
- You will need to re-type the complete passage correctly or with minimum error.
Cut Off
- Cut off marks is the minimum marks in order to clear the examination.
- Only after the result declaration, the cut off will be uploaded on the official website of the portal.
- The final schedule will be updated after official notification.

Resolution of Ties
- Marks in the first part of the written examination.
