- Phase – I – Computer-Based Test (CBT)
- Phase – II- Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Measurement (PMT)
- Phase – III: Document Verification
Phase-I: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
It is an online test consisting of objective-type multiple-choice questions of a total of 120 marks. Further, the question paper is divided into 3 sections, i.e. General Science, Arithmetic, and General Intelligence & Reasoning.
The time and marks allotted for each section are described below:
Subject | No. of Questions | Marks |
General Science | 50 | 50 |
Arithmetic | 35 | 35 |
General Intelligence & Reasoning | 35 | 35 |
The standard for the examination is of the Class X level. Also, the candidates get to select the language of their choice for taking the test. So the following languages are available: Hindi, English, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, Konkani, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Odia, Assamese, Manipuri, and Punjabi.
For each correct answer, the candidate is awarded one mark. However, negative marking will also be conducted as 1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
Phase II: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Measurement (PMT)
Candidates will be called for the PET and PMT for ten times the category wise total vacancy in the Group of Zonal Railways/RPSF notified. However, the availability of adequate candidates for notified posts decides whether this limit be increased or decreased.
Thus, the male candidates for Sub-Inspector (Exe) have to practice 1600 meters running within 6 minutes 30 seconds. Apart from this, there will be a high jump (3 feet 9 inches), a long jump (12 feet) as well. Alternatively, female participants of the Sub-Inspector (Exe) category have to cover 800 meters running within 4 minutes, high jump 3 feet, and long jump 9 feet. Also, it is important to note that all the participants have to finish these 1600 meters and 800 meter run in one attempt only. However, two chances are given for the remaining high and long jump.
Lastly, the applicants who are ex-servicemen have to undergo only the PMT, not the PET.
Phase – III: Document Verification:
Only those candidates who have qualified for the CBT, PMT, as well as PET, are called for the document verification phase. It is a mandatory phase, so if anyone misses this round will be considered disqualified irrespective of their performance in PET/PMT. Lastly, if two candidates are scoring the same marks, then, the preference will be given to a candidate belonging to a higher age group.
Also, the shortlisted candidates have to undergo and pass the Medical Fitness Test by the Railway Administration. Further, the verification of their past records from the local Administration, verification of character, education, and category certificates is also exercised. Besides this, initial training must be successfully completed.
