IIAST 2024: Indian Institute of Astrophysics Screening Test also popularly called IIAST is the most sought entrance examination organized for entry to Ph.D. and M.Phil. – Ph.D. (Integrated) programmes. Indian Institute of Astrophysics is in charge of leading this entrance examination at national level.
To take up this entrance examination, candidates have to fill out and submit the application forms. The forms will be available most likely from the first week of May 2024 only at the official website of Indian Institute of Astrophysics. The exam will be carried out entirely in an online mode. English language will be the medium of exam commencement.
Students will be able to join the program either in the first semester starting from the month of August or the second semester commencing in January. Applications will be released and only the nominated candidates can take part in writing the IIA Screening Test (IIAST). Eligibility Criteria
Those individuals who have qualified for JRF in the CSIR/ NET/ UGC exam, or achieved 97 percentile or above in the JEST, or 98 percentile or above in GATE Exam (Physics) are eligible to appear for this entrance examination. However, scores need to be valid at the time of admission. Candidates wishing to apply for the IIA- Ph.D program on the basis of their JEST/ GATE score must have passed in the PHYSICS paper of JEST/ GATE. Besides the above given admission criteria, candidates should have attained aggregate of 60% marks or above throughout his/ her educational career. The age limit is set up to maximum 25 years as on January 01, 2024.
IIAST 2024 Application Procedure
Here are the complete steps that applicant has to follow in order to participate in IIAST Exam:
- First of all open the official website of Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
- Provide all the academic and personal details in the form as per requirements.
- Upload a recent passport sized photograph of the applicant.
- The applicant is not permitted to impersonate any other individual to submit a successful application.
- Candidates should avoid entering inaccurate or false particulars while filling the details in their application form.
- Do not submit multiple applications.
Application Fee:
A fee of Rs. 200 is mandatory for registering IIAST. For online payment, individuals can use internet banking, credit card, Rupay card, debit card services.
Admission Process
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), IIA screening test (IIAST), Joint Entrance Screening Test and UGC-CSIR / NET exam for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) are all national level assessments through which a personal interview takes place for the aforesaid programs. Candidates who got entry into the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore’s Joint Astronomy Programme (JAP) can easily apply for the Ph.D programme in IIA. After the interview, a screening test will be conducted for the candidates who have been selected.

Entrance examination/ written test is held every year along with the personal interview. This may involves the subject matter for instance in the past qualifications, research and work experience, focus areas of interest, etc.
Examining previous academic performance, at any finished or currently pursuing levels.
IIAST 2024 Post-Doctoral Fellowship Selection Procedure
Aspirants need to be less than 36 years of age for a regular post-doctoral fellowship, while for a Chandrasekhar post doctoral fellowship, they must be under the age of 32 years. If the candidate has a follower of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, it’s compulsory that the viva-voce will be completed at the point during the re-examination. The screening process this fellowship is based to the in-depth evaluation of the all- enclosing application form that has to be sent in, finished, at least three weeks before the starting of the review process.
