IGNOU B.Com Course 2024
The IGNOU B.Com comprises three different courses from which students have to choose their subjects in all three years. It includes:
- Foundation Courses (24 Credits)
- Elective Courses (56 or 64 (not less than 48 credits))
- Application Oriented Courses (16 or 8)
Besides these courses, all the students are required to study an awareness course on the environment, titled ‘An Introduction to the Environment (NEV1). However, the university does not conduct any examinations for this program.
IGNOU B.Com Admission 2024
As already mentioned, IGNOU offers admission to the B.Com course twice a year. Also, the university offers this bachelor’s degree program via two streams, namely, non-formal and formal.
- Formal Stream: This stream is open for all the candidates who have cleared 10+2 or its equivalent examination.
- Non-formal Stream: Here, even the candidates who have not qualified 10+2 examination can also pursue a bachelor’s degree from IGNOU. However, they have to appear in the Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme of IGNOU to become eligible for admission to B.Com, BA, BTS, & BSW.

B.Com Course & Syllabus Details
All the three category courses of B.Com and their credits are enlisted below. The IGNOU B.Com Course 2024 can be completed only after completing 32 credits per year. Thus, 96 credits can be completed within three years degree program. Further, for these 96 credits, subjects are chosen from the following category of courses:
- Foundation Course
- Elective Courses and
- Application-Oriented Courses
Besides these, all the bachelor’s degree program students also have to study an environmental awareness course, ‘An Introduction to the Environment (NEV1). It is intended only to improve the student’s understanding of the prevalent environmental conditions and concerns and their management. Thus, there will be no examination for this environmental awareness course.

Scheme of Study for IGNOU B.Com Course
Here, is a scheme to cover the syllabus and all the 96 credits within 3 years of the IGNOU B.Com course that every candidate must follow. Each candidate is allowed to take courses containing 32 credits per year. Therefore, in the first year, prescribed credits in Foundation Courses must be covered (BSHF 101, FEG 1 or FHD 2 and FEG 2 or any one of MILs or FST 1) along with Elective courses for the remaining credits.
Thereafter, the remaining credits of both the Foundation and Elective courses must be taken in the second year. It must include 8 credits of Foundation Courses (FST 01) and 24 credits of Elective Courses in Commerce (ECO 3, ECO 5, ECO 6, or ECO 13, ECO 7, ECO 12, and ECO 14). Lastly, in the third year, the students must target 16 or 24 credits in Elective Courses and 16 or 8 credits in Application Oriented Courses, AMK 1, AED 1, AOM 1, ASP 1, and BCOA 1.

IGNOU B.Com Admission Eligibility
- The candidate must have qualified 10+2 standard to get admission in IGNOU B.Com course 2024.
- However, students without clearing the 10+2 examination can also be eligible if he/she has completed Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme (BPP) from IGNOU.

- The medium of instruction for the program would be English and Hindi
- All the candidates enrolled in the IGNOU B.Com course 2024 have to complete the program within a minimum of three to a maximum of six years.
